Powerhouse Parramatta prepares for opening
Western Sydney is gearing up as Powerhouse Parramatta finishes final preparations ahead of its historic weekend launch.

Powerhouse Parramatta is completing final rehearsals and testing ahead of its public opening on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Staff, builders, and invited guests participated in extensive dry runs over recent days to test the new museum building and visitor experiences on site.
More than 3,000 objects have been installed across the 30,000-square-metre site located on the banks of the Parramatta River. Major exhibits include the F1 Rocket, Apollo boilerplate, and SpaceX debris housed within large column-free display spaces designed by architecture firm Moreau Kusunoki.
Guest services hosts finished their training as more than 22,000 visitors registered for the opening weekend festival events. Western Sydney food producers worked alongside chef Simon Sandall to prepare the facility cafe and restaurant spaces for incoming crowds.
The new cultural institution represents a significant infrastructure investment for the region. Officials said that sixty-five per cent of the opening program events will be entirely free for members of the public.
Visitors under 16 years old will receive free entry to all five inaugural exhibitions. The opening festival will feature more than 170 events across twenty-three days of celebrations.
The museum will operate seven days a week following its launch. During the opening festival, operating hours will extend until 9pm from Thursday to Sunday, while Monday to Wednesday hours are set from 10am to 5pm.
Travelers can reach the venue via train, light rail, bus, and ferry services. Visitors can access the site at 34 Phillip Street in Parramatta.
The public opening takes place on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
The facility aims to engage communities with contemporary ideas and scientific milestones. Public transport options will be operating at full capacity to support opening weekend crowds.
